KUCHING – A Danish delegation has commended the swift progress achieved by the Sarawak Ombudsman institution, noting its growing role in strengthening governance and integrity within the state.
During a courtesy visit to Wisma Bapa Malaysia on Thursday, Christian Britten Lundblad, the Danish Parliamentary Ombudsman, remarked that although Sarawak’s Ombudsman is relatively new compared to Denmark’s 70-year-old institution, its accomplishments in a short period have been impressive.
“We have a 70-year-old institution, but they are moving forward rapidly here. I am always inspired by this collaboration and the shared views. Although coming from different perspectives, the problems faced are actually very similar,” he said.
The meeting was hosted by Sarawak Attorney General Dato Sri Saferi Ali and attended by several dignitaries, including the Danish Ambassador to Malaysia H.E Kirstine Vangkilde Berner, Sarawak Deputy Attorney General Datu John Wayne Chamberlin Sirau, Director of International Relations Klavs Duus Kinnerup Hede, and Deputy Head of Mission of the Royal Danish Embassy Merve Imren Yalcin.
According to Lundblad, the purpose of the visit was to deepen cooperation and gain a clearer understanding of how the Ombudsman institution in Sarawak operates. Discussions centred on the institution’s functions, investigative tools and methodologies, as well as its role in addressing governance challenges.
The Danish Ombudsman highlighted that despite differences in context, both countries face similar issues in governance and accountability, making collaboration and knowledge-sharing valuable. He expressed optimism that continued engagement would benefit both institutions in enhancing transparency and public trust.
The Sarawak Ombudsman, established to strengthen oversight and integrity, has quickly gained recognition for its proactive approach in addressing complaints and improving administrative practices. The Danish delegation’s remarks further underscore the institution’s growing reputation internationally.
The visit reflects Sarawak’s commitment to building strong partnerships with global counterparts, reinforcing its vision of embedding integrity and accountability at the heart of governance.
