KUCHING – Deputy Minister of Health, YB Dato Hajjah Hanifah Hajar Taib, continued the Sarawak Borneo Health Tour Series 1 with an official working visit to the Ministry of Health Malaysia Training Institute (ILKKM) Kuching.
The visit underscored the importance of strengthening health training institutions to meet the evolving needs of Malaysia’s healthcare system.
ILKKM Kuching, formerly known as the Allied Health Sciences College (KSKB), is one of the Ministry’s strategic centres for producing skilled health professionals.
Established in 2001, completed in 2005, and operational since September 2005, the facility has played a vital role in training thousands of healthcare workers.
Currently, ILKKM Kuching offers a wide range of programmes. These include three pre-service diplomas in Nursing, Medical Laboratory Technology, and Medical and Health Sciences.
In addition, eight advanced diploma programmes are available, covering areas such as Perioperative Care, Neonatal Care, Primary Health Care, Emergency Care, Intensive Care, Mental Health Care, Midwifery, and Cardiovascular Health Care. The institute also provides two certificate programmes in Public Health Nursing and Nephrology Care.
During the visit, the Deputy Minister inspected the facilities and reviewed the institute’s capacity to produce competent and competitive health workers.
She engaged directly with teaching staff and trainees, discussing training realities, challenges, and the needs of the healthcare sector.
ILKKM Kuching has been recognised as a Centre of Excellence (CoE) for the Primary Health Care programme.
The Deputy Minister highlighted the importance of strengthening primary health care, embracing digitalisation, and implementing high-impact training to prepare for future healthcare demands.
She expressed her appreciation to the teaching staff for their professionalism and dedication, noting that their contributions are a cornerstone of Malaysia’s health training system.
“Their commitment is an important pillar in ensuring the sustainability of excellence in the country’s health workforce,” she remarked.
Also present during the visit were senior officials from the Ministry of Health, including Puan Emillia Rosnizar binti Ahmad Hanipiah, Secretary of the Training Management Division (BPL); Dr Azlee bin Ayob, Deputy Director of Health (Medicine) JKN Sarawak; Dr Mohamad Nazaruddin bin Bahari, Deputy Director (Public Health) JKN Sarawak; Dr Misah binti Md Ramli, Deputy Director (Dental) JKN Sarawak; and Puan Norazita binti Mohamed Talib, Deputy Director of Academics and Director of ILKKM Kuching.
The visit reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing healthcare training and ensuring that Malaysia’s health workforce remains responsive, resilient, and prepared for future challenges.
