ACP Mohd Farhan urged the public not to spread unverified information or speculate, as this could disrupt ongoing investigations. He appealed to anyone with information about the case to contact the Kuching Police Control Centre at 082-24444 or Senior Criminal Investigation Officer ASP Tan Kian Kok at 010-5661576 to assist with the investigation.

Suspect Admits to Crime Over Football Match Expenses

Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata revealed that the suspect, a 23-year-old local male, had admitted to the crime during police interrogation. The suspect confessed that he murdered the victim to steal her gold jewellery, which he later pawned to fund a trip to watch the Malaysia-Cambodia match at the 2024 Mitsubishi Electric ASEAN Cup in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

“The suspect admitted to committing the crime to take the victim’s gold bracelets and earrings for pawning,” Datuk Mancha said, as reported in Berita Harian Online.

The suspect is currently in police custody and has been remanded until December 22.

The tragic discovery has left the local community shocked and highlights the importance of vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement to ensure justice is served.
