SIBU (Feb 11): Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian and his wife, Datin Amar Enn Ong, paid a Chinese New Year (CNY) visit to the renowned Sibu Eng Ann Teng Tua Peh Kong Temple today.
Upon their arrival, they were warmly greeted by the temple’s deputy chairman, Soon Choon Kui, and other committee members.
Dr Sim shared with the devotees that the visit was part of his effort to strengthen ties with the temple committee and extend festive goodwill. He emphasized the importance of preserving traditions like these to maintain unity and harmony within the community.
“This temple is over 120 years old. It was established for the people of Sibu and has grown into an important landmark and tourist attraction,” Dr Sim said.
The Tua Peh Kong Temple holds a significant place in Sibu’s history, attracting both locals and tourists. Dr Sim also acknowledged the temple’s role in promoting cultural heritage and religious harmony in the area.
During the visit, the temple’s deputy chairman Soon Choon Kui expressed hope that Dr Sim would continue supporting the temple’s upcoming expansion project to enhance its facilities for future generations.
Among those present at the event were Sibu Municipal Council chairman Clarence Ting and Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan branch chairman Kevin Lau.
The festive visit highlights the importance of preserving cultural heritage while fostering a closer bond between leaders and the local community. As the temple embarks on its expansion project, the support from leaders and the community will ensure that its legacy continues for many years to come.
