Education is the Main Pillar of Community Development

Education is the Main Pillar of Community Development

MUKAH – Education remains the cornerstone of community development, particularly for rural residents, according to Balingian State Assemblyman (ADUN) Abdul Yakub Arbi.

Speaking at the Education Awareness Programme and Sarawak Education Expo held at Tom Bazeley Hall, SMK Three Rivers, Abdul Yakub said education should go beyond merely transferring knowledge.

“It is a platform to build character, instill values, and produce a competitive generation,” he said.

He highlighted that the expo emphasises community-based leadership, proactive involvement of Parent-Teacher Associations (PIBG), and the promotion of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

Abdul Yakub also noted the importance of Career Day in helping students identify their potential, plan for the future, and access information on educational opportunities and sponsorships.

During the event, he presented two cheques from Yayasan Sarawak to PPD Mukah, comprising a local scholarship worth RM38,400 and school uniform assistance totaling RM157,000.
