KAPIT – Traffic along Tatai Amang Road in Kapit was restored after a fallen tree blocked the route earlier this week.
The incident, which occurred on 11 May 2026, prompted immediate action from the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM).
The District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) received calls from members of the public reporting the obstruction.
In response, Alpha Squad was dispatched to the scene with four personnel equipped to handle the situation.
Upon arrival, the team assessed the area and began cutting and clearing the tree using chainsaw equipment.
The operation was carried out efficiently, ensuring that the road was reopened for motorists without delay. Authorities confirmed that no injuries or damage was reported during the incident.
Local officials emphasised that fallen trees are a recurring hazard in Sarawak, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall and strong winds.
Such incidents can disrupt daily travel, delay emergency services, and pose risks to nearby residents. The swift intervention by APM Kapit highlights the importance of readiness and rapid response in maintaining public safety.
Residents in rural districts often face similar challenges, with roads frequently obstructed by fallen trees or debris.
Civil Defence teams across Sarawak have been actively engaged in clearing routes to ensure communities remain connected and safe. Their ability to mobilise quickly has been crucial in preventing accidents and minimising disruption.
Authorities continue to urge the public to report any hazards immediately, stressing that early notification allows rescue teams to act before situations escalate. Community cooperation remains vital in ensuring that roads and public spaces are kept safe.
APM Kapit reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property, guided by its operational motto, “Ready Fast with Integrity”.
Officials also reminded residents that assistance is available around the clock through the emergency hotline.
For emergencies, the public can contact PKOD Kapit via the national emergency line 999 or the district hotline at 084-796-330, which operates 24 hours a day.
