Woman Dies in Motorcycle Accident on Bau-Lundu Road

KUCHING — A tragic accident claimed the life of a local woman after her motorcycle skidded and crashed into a guardrail along Bau-Lundu Road on Tuesday evening.

Bau District Police Chief, Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman, confirmed that the Bau District Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division (BSPT) received a report of the fatal incident at around 7.13 pm at KM 8 of the busy stretch of road.

According to him, the accident involved a KTM RC 200 motorcycle, which the victim was riding from Kampung Tembawang Sauh towards Bau town.

“Preliminary investigations found that the rider suddenly lost control of the motorcycle before veering off the road and colliding with the steel guardrail along the Pan Borneo Highway,” said Supt Haide in a statement.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel from Bau Hospital who arrived shortly after the crash.

Police have opened an investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which deals with reckless or dangerous driving resulting in death. Authorities are urging eyewitnesses or anyone with information about the accident to come forward and assist in the investigation by contacting the nearest police station.

Supt Haide also took the opportunity to remind motorists and motorcyclists alike to remain vigilant on the road, ensure their vehicles are roadworthy, and practise tolerance to avoid unnecessary accidents.

Fatal accidents remain a concern along rural roads in Sarawak, particularly during evenings and peak hours when visibility is lower and traffic conditions are less predictable. Authorities continue to stress the importance of safe driving practices to reduce the number of road fatalities in the state.
