PUSA, Nov 5: A father and his young son were seriously injured in a three-vehicle accident along Jalan Simpang Tambak, Pusa, this afternoon.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Centre (PGO) said they received an emergency call at 12.16 pm, prompting a rescue team from the Saratok Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) to be dispatched to the scene, about 42 kilometres away.
Upon arrival, rescuers found that the accident involved an Isuzu Dmax, a Perodua Viva, and a Perodua Kancil. One of the victims, a 34-year-old man, was trapped in the driver’s seat of the Kancil and required immediate rescue.
“Firefighters used special rescue tools to cut and pry open the car door before safely removing the victim. He was then handed over to ambulance personnel for medical treatment,” said the department in a statement.
The father sustained serious leg fractures and an open wound on his chin. His 12-year-old son, who was also in the Kancil, suffered a fractured hip and multiple open wounds. The boy was rescued by members of the public before the fire team arrived.
Meanwhile, the drivers and passengers of the Isuzu Dmax and Perodua Viva escaped unhurt.
A total of five firefighters with two rescue vehicles — a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) and Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit — were involved in the operation.
The operation was declared under control at 1.11 pm and ended at 1.48 pm. Also assisting at the scene were six Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) officers and two ambulances from the Ministry of Health (MOH).
Authorities are investigating the cause of the collision.
