Fire Ravages Miri City Bus Office Building Late at Night

No Casualties Reported in Massive Blaze Near Wisma Pelita Tunku

MIRI — A late-night fire broke out at the Miri City Bus Office building located in front of Wisma Pelita Tunku, engulfing the structure in flames and leaving behind heavy damage.

According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Operations Centre (PGO), an emergency call regarding the incident was received at 11.51pm. In response, a firefighting team from the Miri Central Fire and Rescue Station was immediately dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that the fire had already spread extensively within the premises. The office, a one-storey semi-permanent building measuring about 40 by 80 square feet, was nearly consumed by the blaze.

“About 80 percent of the building was destroyed by the fire,” said a PGO spokesperson in a statement issued today.

Thankfully, no injuries or deaths were reported. Firefighters successfully brought the fire under control at 12.26 midnight, preventing it from spreading further or affecting nearby buildings.

Support in the firefighting operation also came from the BBP Lopeng fire brigade team. The cause of the fire is still being investigated by authorities, and damage assessment is ongoing.

The Miri City Bus Office is known as a key part of the city’s public transportation system. Its operations may be temporarily affected, but no official announcement has been made yet regarding service disruptions.

This incident highlights the importance of fire safety, especially in older and semi-permanent structures. The authorities urge all building operators to ensure proper fire prevention measures are in place.
