Serian Mosque Hosts World #QuranHour 2026

KUCHING – The World #QuranHour 2026 programme was celebrated on 11 March at Darul Makmur Mosque, Serian, with participants focusing on the recitation of Surah Al-Muzzammil. The event was organised by the Sarawak State Library and brought together community members and leaders in a spirit of reflection and unity.

The ceremony was graced by YB Datuk Dr. Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Junaidi, Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Project Coordinator for Regional Agencies, North Kuching City Hall and Islamic Affairs). His presence underscored the importance of the programme in promoting Quranic engagement and strengthening faith during Ramadan.

The Sarawak State Library expressed gratitude to all participants and supporting organisations for their cooperation in ensuring the success of the event. The initiative reflects the library’s commitment to fostering religious awareness and community participation through cultural and spiritual programmes.

Also in attendance were several distinguished figures, including Datuk Haji Misnu bin Haji Taha, Chairman of the Sarawak Islamic Council; Dr. Abang Haji Abdul Rauf bin Abang Haji Zen, Chairman of the Library Management Board; Tuan Haji Japri Bujang Masli, Chief Executive Officer of Sarawak State Library; Ustaz Haji Mohamad Shalahudin bin Marzuki, Chief Executive Officer of Darul Hana Quranic Centre (DHQc), Sarawak Islamic Council; Tuan Tazudin Mohtar, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Sarawak Islamic Information Centre; and Ustaz Madihi bin Jamali, Divisional Islamic Religious Officer of the Serian Divisional Islamic Religious Office.

The programme highlighted the significance of Quranic recitation as a means of spiritual enrichment and community bonding. By focusing on Surah Al-Muzzammil, participants were reminded of the values of devotion, perseverance, and reflection, which are central to Islamic teachings.

World #QuranHour has become a global movement encouraging Muslims to dedicate time to the Quran collectively. In Sarawak, the initiative continues to gain momentum, with events such as this reinforcing the importance of shared spiritual practices and the role of institutions in supporting religious education.
