Fire Breaks Out at IOI Mall Damansara, Public Acts Fast to Extinguish

PETALING JAYA: A fire broke out inside a shop unit at IOI Mall Damansara, causing significant damage before being swiftly extinguished by members of the public. The incident, which occurred on Sunday, saw the affected room being 80% destroyed by flames before firefighters arrived at the scene.

According to the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department, the fire started in a small room measuring approximately 8×8 square feet within a shop unit. Fortunately, bystanders acted quickly and managed to put out the fire before the fire brigade arrived.

Operations commander Mohd Redzuan Rosli confirmed that the Damansara fire station was the first to respond to the emergency, with additional assistance from the Sungai Buloh fire station. A total of 14 personnel were deployed, along with two fire engines and an Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS) vehicle.

Authorities have commended the public for their swift action in containing the blaze, which prevented further damage to surrounding areas. Thankfully, no injuries were reported in the incident.

Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire, and authorities have urged businesses and shoppers to remain vigilant and adhere to fire safety protocols.

The quick response from the public highlights the importance of fire safety awareness and the role of bystanders in emergency situations. The authorities continue to emphasize the need for fire prevention measures in commercial areas to avoid similar incidents in the future.
