Fire Destroys Two Houses in Kampung Siol Kandis, One Partially Damaged

KUCHING (Feb 21): A devastating fire broke out in Kampung Siol Kandis, Petra Jaya, in the early hours of today, reducing two wooden houses to ashes and partially damaging another. Fortunately, all 17 residents of the affected homes managed to escape unharmed, though one man suffered from breathing difficulties.

Fire Breaks Out Past Midnight

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) received an emergency call at 12.32am, prompting a swift response from fire stations in Petra Jaya, Padungan, and Batu Lintang. Firefighters arrived quickly to battle the raging flames, managing to bring the fire under control by 1am. The fire was completely extinguished by 2.37am.

One Resident Treated for Breathing Issues

While there were no reported injuries, a man in his 20s experienced breathing difficulties after attempting to rescue belongings from his burning house. He was given immediate medical treatment on-site before being transported to Sarawak General Hospital for further observation.

Extent of Damage and Investigation Underway

Bomba confirmed that two houses were completely destroyed, while a third house sustained approximately 10 per cent damage. The exact cause of the fire remains unknown, and investigations are currently underway to determine what triggered the blaze.

Authorities Urge Fire Safety Awareness

This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of fire safety, particularly in residential areas with wooden structures. Authorities urge residents to take necessary precautions, including checking electrical wiring and ensuring fire safety equipment is available at home.
