Fire Partially Damages Laundry Shop on Christmas Eve in Kuching

KUCHING, Dec 25: A laundry shop on Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce suffered partial damage after a fire broke out on the night of Christmas Eve.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Batu Lintang responded swiftly to the distress call at 10.03pm, deploying a team of firefighters to the scene.

Upon arrival, the team discovered that flames had engulfed a pile of cloth and laundry equipment inside the shop, resulting in an estimated 45 per cent damage to the premises. The incident also caused smoke damage to the building’s structure, but no casualties or injuries were reported.

Firefighters efficiently contained the blaze, using water from a nearby hydrant to extinguish the fire. The situation was brought under control by 10.20pm, and the team concluded their operations shortly before 11pm after ensuring the area was safe and free from potential hazards.

Investigations into the cause of the fire and the estimated financial losses are currently ongoing.

While the incident marred the festive evening, authorities commended the swift action of Bomba Batu Lintang, which prevented the fire from spreading further.
