Firefighters Clear Oil Spill After Car Crash on Pan Borneo Road

SRI AMAN, 10 May 2025 – Firefighters from the Sri Aman Fire and Rescue Department quickly responded to a car accident that caused an oil spill on Jalan Pan Borneo Sri Aman-Serian, near the Melugu Quarry A area, this evening.

According to Sarawak Zone 3 Fire Chief, Muhammad Rais Adham Rosalan, the station received an emergency call at around 3.10pm. The situation involved a vehicle accident that resulted in a six-metre-long oil spill on the busy Pan Borneo highway.

A team of eight firemen led by Senior Fire Officer 2, Elijah Tiyit, were immediately dispatched to the scene to contain and clean up the spill.

“Upon arrival, our team found that the road surface was contaminated with oil, creating a dangerous situation for road users. The spill covered approximately six metres,” he said.

The firefighters, equipped with full personal protective equipment (PPE), conducted an initial assessment before beginning the clean-up operation. They used one auxiliary engine start line to flush and remove the oil spill effectively.

The cleanup process took about an hour. The operation was successfully brought under control by 4.12pm, and fully concluded by 4.33pm once the road was deemed safe for vehicles.

Authorities have advised motorists to drive carefully, especially during unexpected weather or in areas where road conditions may suddenly change due to such incidents.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported, and swift action from the Sri Aman firefighters helped avoid further complications or accidents on the road.

This incident highlights the crucial role of emergency responders in ensuring road safety for all users on one of Sarawak’s major transport routes.
