KUCHING — Continuous heavy rain over the past few days has caused flooding in Kampung Sinar Budi, forcing several families to leave their homes for safety. The rising water level entered residential areas early Monday, prompting swift action from rescue authorities to prevent any untoward incidents.
Residents described the situation as worrying as water began to rise steadily following hours of non-stop rainfall. Some homes were partially submerged, while access roads became difficult to pass. Concerned for their safety, villagers cooperated fully with instructions from the authorities during the evacuation process.
Personnel from the Civil Defence Force, also known as Angkatan Pertahanan Awam Malaysia, were deployed to the affected area to assist with the relocation efforts. The evacuation was carried out in stages to ensure smooth coordination and to prioritise vulnerable groups such as children, senior citizens and individuals with health conditions. Families were transported to a designated temporary evacuation centre, commonly referred to as Pusat Pemindahan Sementara, where they were registered and given basic necessities.
According to officials on the ground, the safety of residents remains the top priority. Rescue teams monitored the situation closely as rainfall continued in several parts of Kuching. Authorities have advised villagers to remain alert and to follow official updates, especially if weather conditions worsen.
At the temporary evacuation centre, volunteers and officers worked together to provide food, drinking water and sleeping arrangements for the displaced families. Health and welfare checks were also conducted to ensure that those affected remain in stable condition. The authorities have assured that assistance will continue for as long as necessary until it is safe for residents to return home.
Flooding is not uncommon in low-lying areas during prolonged periods of rain, and Kampung Sinar Budi has experienced similar incidents in the past. However, early monitoring and quick response this time helped reduce the risk of injuries and serious damage.
As weather conditions remain unpredictable, authorities have pledged to stay on site and continue monitoring water levels. Residents have been reminded to prioritise safety and to cooperate with rescue teams at all times.
The situation serves as a reminder of the importance of preparedness and community cooperation during natural disasters. With strong coordination between rescue agencies and villagers, the immediate focus remains on safeguarding lives and providing timely assistance to those in need.
