MUKAH – Police in Mukah have arrested a foreign national suspected of involvement in small-scale drug distribution following a raid in Sesok Village.
The operation was conducted on 19 May at around 7.30 pm by officers from the Narcotic Crimes Investigation Division of Mukah District Police Headquarters.
Acting on intelligence, police raided an unnumbered house in the village and detained a 24-year-old male labourer.
During the inspection, authorities discovered 14 transparent straw tubes containing crystalline substances believed to be methamphetamine, locally known as syabu.
The drugs were hidden inside a cigarette box. The total gross weight of the seized narcotics was 5.82 grams, with an estimated street value of RM300.
The suspect was taken to Mukah IPD along with the confiscated items for further investigation. A urine test later confirmed that he was positive for both amphetamine and methamphetamine.
Police confirmed that the case is being investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries penalties of imprisonment between two and five years and mandatory whipping of three to nine strokes. Additionally, the suspect faces charges under Section 163 of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Investigators also opened a case under Section 163 of the Immigration Act 1959 after discovering that the suspect did not possess valid travel documents. He has been remanded for four days until 24 May to assist with the investigation.
Mukah District Police Chief DSP Muhamad Rizal bin Alias stated that the police remain committed to tackling drug abuse and distribution in the district.
He urged the public to provide information on narcotics-related activities by contacting the Mukah IPD hotline at 084-871222 or reporting to the nearest police station.
Drug-related offences continue to be a pressing concern in Sarawak, with enforcement agencies intensifying raids and patrols to disrupt supply chains and prevent abuse.
Authorities emphasised that community cooperation is essential in combating the spread of narcotics and protecting public safety.
