KUCHING, 3 May 2025 – The spirit of Gawai Dayak came alive in the heart of the city as Gawai Ba Podium 2025 officially kicked off at The Podium, Kuching. The colourful and family-friendly event celebrates Sarawak’s rich Dayak culture and traditions, drawing locals and visitors alike to experience an authentic and modern take on Gawai festivities.

The opening ceremony was graced by YB Dato Ir. Lo Khere Chiang, the Batu Kitang State Assemblyman, who officiated the launch with a heartfelt speech following a thunderous performance by Kumpulan Gendang Pampat Peruji Ati (KGPPA). The traditional Iban drumbeats echoed through the venue, symbolising unity and cultural pride.

After the officiating ceremony, YB Dato Lo toured the booths and interacted with vendors and guests, showing strong support for Sarawak’s creative and cultural scene. The event is hosted by Woo Woo Whimsy, with The Podium as the venue partner, transforming the urban space into a lively cultural hub.

Held over two weekends (May 2–4 and May 9–11), Gawai Ba Podium features a vibrant programme that includes:

  • Live sape music and cultural fashion showcases
  • Hands-on workshops and heritage games
  • Children’s creative corner and family activities

The event brings together 36 local vendors offering handmade crafts, traditional beadwork, Gawai-themed snacks, and home-cooked dishes. It is a celebration of identity, belonging, and creative expression, especially meaningful during the Gawai season.

Gawai Ba Podium is free and open to the public, inviting everyone to immerse themselves in Dayak heritage and support Sarawakian talents in a modern setting.
