LUNDU – The Closing Ceremony of Gawai Dayak PERASA 2025 was held with great spirit and cultural pride, bringing together members of the Rara and Salako communities in a celebration that emphasised unity, heritage, and identity.

Held on Saturday, the event was officiated by Opar State Assemblyman (ADUN), Billy Sujang, who described Gawai Dayak as more than a harvest celebration—it is a symbol of unity, harmony, and cultural identity in Sarawak.

“Gawai is not just about celebrating agricultural success. It is about family, community, and the spirit of togetherness that binds us all,” he said in his speech.

Billy also underscored the importance of preserving the culture and legacy of the Rara and Salako ethnic groups, especially among the younger generation.

“Our traditional attire is not merely decorative—it carries identity and historical significance. We must be proud of these cultural symbols and ensure they are passed on,” he added.

The event featured vibrant cultural performances, traditional dances, and ethnic displays that highlighted the rich artistic heritage of the Salako and Rara people. A communal dinner further strengthened kinship among attendees, followed by a group photo session to commemorate the celebration.

Also present were Political Secretary to the Premier of Sarawak, Niponi Undek, Pemancha Allen Manuim Enggang, PERASA President Robert Umping, and Organising Chairman Lt. Col. Pahot Jol.
