KUCHING – In a gesture of festive goodwill and community engagement, the Governor of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, accompanied by his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi, attended an Aidilfitri gathering at the private residence of a senior state minister on Tuesday.
The visit, which took place on the 12th of Syawal, was hosted by Dato Sri Hajah Fatimah Abdullah, the Minister for Women, Children, and Community Wellbeing. The Governor and his entourage were welcomed at the Jalan Sultan Tengah home of the Minister and her spouse, Datu Dr Haji Adi Badiozaman Tuah.
The delegation included the Governor’s daughters, Sharifah Fariah and Sharifah Nong-Jasima. Also in attendance was Datuk Dr Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Junaidi, the Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department responsible for Islamic Affairs and Kuching North City Hall, who served as the Minister-in-Attendance alongside his wife, Datin Siti Shorgayah binti Haji Ahmad Zaidin.
Beyond the traditional exchange of festive greetings, the visit served as a platform for charitable initiatives. Toh Puan Fauziah officiated the handover of professional photography equipment to Puan Nor Karmira Benny Karmilan, a single mother identified through the Low Income Family Empowerment (LIFE) scheme.
This specific programme, managed by the Ministry of Women, Children, and Community Wellbeing, is designed to provide sustainable livelihood tools to vulnerable households. During the presentation, the Governor’s wife also distributed festive donations, known as duit raya, to Puan Nor Karmira’s children to mark the celebratory season.
The informal session lasted approximately two hours, during which the leaders engaged in discussions regarding social harmony and regional development. The atmosphere was described by attendees as warm and fraternal, reflecting the multicultural spirit of Sarawak’s festive traditions.
Expressing his gratitude following the event, Tun Wan Junaidi praised the hospitality shown by Dato Sri Fatimah and her family. He noted that such gatherings are vital for maintaining the close-knit social fabric of the state.
Furthermore, the Governor voiced his support for the ongoing welfare strategies spearheaded by the Ministry. He expressed his desire to see continued enhancement of community-focused initiatives that directly benefit target groups, ensuring that Sarawak’s progress remains inclusive for all strata of society.
The visit concluded with a group photograph, marking another chapter in the state leadership’s tradition of engaging with citizens and officials during major cultural milestones.
