KUCHING – Staff from the Office of the President of Sarawak took part in a brisk walk session today, reinforcing the importance of health and well-being in the workplace.
The activity, held around the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly and Wisma Bapa Malaysia, saw the participation of 48 employees.
The initiative was designed to encourage a culture of healthy living among civil servants, while also promoting mental resilience and physical fitness.
By engaging in group activities such as this, staff were able to strengthen camaraderie, boost morale and foster a more positive working environment.
Senior Private Secretary to the President of Sarawak, Dato’ Sri Haji Syed Hamzah bin Syed Paie, explained that the programme reflects a broader commitment to cultivating a balanced and inclusive workplace.
He noted that such initiatives not only improve individual well-being but also contribute to building a resilient workforce capable of delivering quality service to the public.
The brisk walk was part of the Perkasa Healthy Lifestyle and Work-Life Balance programme, which aligns with the Sarawak Government’s ongoing efforts to enhance the welfare of its civil service.
Authorities have emphasised that promoting wellness among employees is essential to sustaining productivity and ensuring long-term efficiency in public administration.
Participants reported that the session provided a refreshing break from routine office work, offering both physical benefits and an opportunity to strengthen team spirit.
The activity also highlighted the importance of integrating wellness practices into daily schedules, ensuring that employees remain energetic and motivated.
The Sarawak Government has increasingly prioritised health-focused initiatives for its workforce, recognising that civil servants play a crucial role in delivering services to the people.
By encouraging regular exercise and wellness programmes, the administration aims to create a healthier, more sustainable work culture.
Observers note that such activities can serve as a model for other government departments, demonstrating how simple steps towards health promotion can yield significant benefits in terms of productivity, morale and service delivery.
With consistent implementation, initiatives like the brisk walk are expected to contribute to a stronger, more dynamic civil service in Sarawak.
