Beting Maro State Assemblyman (ADUN) Razaili Gapor said the recognition highlights the unique economic potential of gula apong, which has long been a traditional product of the coastal community but is now gaining attention as a high-value commodity.

“In Beting Maro, we are very fortunate because Kampung Tambak is the largest producer of apong or nipah products in Malaysia. This product is in high demand and has great potential to be marketed more widely,” he said during the KMKK and PBB Branch Meeting for the Beting Maro area at Al Amin Hall, Beladin, on Monday.

Razaili emphasised that gula apong is not only a cultural and regional identity for Beting Maro, but also a driver of socio-economic development, especially in rural areas where agriculture and small-scale enterprises play a critical role.

He encouraged the local community to make full use of government initiatives and support programmes to strengthen the marketability of gula apong, ensuring the product remains competitive and recognised nationwide.

“With the right support and innovation, gula apong can elevate the economy of our people while becoming a brand that Beting Maro can be proud of at the national level,” he added.

The recognition of Kampung Tambak further strengthens Sarawak’s commitment to empowering rural economies by promoting niche, high-value agricultural products that blend traditional heritage with modern market demand.
