BETONG – Two individuals sustained injuries following a road accident involving a Toyota Hilux four-wheel drive vehicle in front of a Petron petrol station here late last night.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department’s (JBPM) Operations Centre (PGO) received the emergency call at approximately 9.53pm, prompting immediate dispatch of a rescue team from the Betong Fire and Rescue Station (BBP).

According to JBPM’s official statement, a total of eight personnel led by Senior Fire Officer II Helman Tino were deployed to the scene to carry out the rescue mission.
“Upon arrival, our team discovered that the four-wheel drive vehicle had been involved in a self-accident. Both victims, who were in the vehicle at the time of the crash, were found conscious but sustained injuries,” the statement said.
The team from JBPM proceeded to carry out extraction using specialised rescue tools and personal protective equipment (PPE) to safely remove the victims from the badly damaged vehicle.
Once extricated, both injured individuals were immediately transferred into a waiting ambulance and transported to Betong Hospital for further medical treatment.
The severity of their injuries has yet to be disclosed, but both were reported to be in stable condition upon hospital admission.
Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances leading to the accident. Members of the public are reminded to remain cautious, especially when driving at night and during unpredictable weather conditions.
This marks yet another reminder of the importance of road safety, especially in rural areas where lighting and road conditions can vary significantly.
