KUCHING — An international seminar addressing the human dimension of the climate crisis will take place on 29 and 30 July at the Sarawak Islamic Complex Hall, as part of the 70th anniversary celebration of the Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS).
Titled “International Seminar on Humanity and Climate Change Crisis: Multidimensional Perspectives”, the event aims to shed light on the vital yet often overlooked connection between human activities and global climate change, while exploring solutions through scientific, intellectual, and spiritual lenses.
Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Project Coordinator for the Regional Development Agency, DBKU and Islamic Affairs), Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, said the seminar will convene local and international policymakers, scientists, scholars, NGOs, and students to foster multidimensional dialogue on climate issues.
“Our goal is to deepen understanding of how human actions impact climate change and to explore how Islamic teachings can guide us in confronting this global issue,” he said during a press conference on Friday.
Dr Abdul Rahman emphasised that the event will also serve as a platform for developing local and global strategies to address the ongoing climate emergency.
The Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, is scheduled to officiate the seminar and deliver a keynote address titled “Balancing Developmental Needs and Environmental Concerns: Sarawak Experience and The Way Forward.”
The two-day seminar is open to the public and free of charge, with anticipated participation from academic institutions, government bodies, NGOs, community leaders, and the general public.
Organisers are extending an open invitation to all who are passionate about humanity, environmental justice, and sustainability to attend and be part of the global conversation.
