BAU – Police in Bau have confirmed the arrest of a man suspected of drug abuse during an operation in Segong Village, Singgai, on the afternoon of 23 April 2026.
The enforcement action was carried out at approximately 3.00pm by officers from the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division, supported by personnel from Bau District Police Headquarters.
The suspect, a 32-year-old local man, was taken into custody following a preliminary urine screening test which indicated positive results for drug use.
Authorities stated that the arrest was made under provisions of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, a law that continues to serve as the primary framework for tackling narcotics-related offences in Malaysia.
The legislation provides police with the authority to act swiftly against individuals found to be involved in drug abuse, ensuring that offenders face legal consequences.
Bau District Police Chief, P/Supt Mohd Haide bin A. Rahman, confirmed the details in a media statement, stressing that the Royal Malaysian Police remain committed to combating drug-related activities across Sarawak.
He reiterated that enforcement will be consistently applied to safeguard communities from the harm associated with narcotics.
Drug abuse remains a pressing issue in Sarawak, with police operations frequently targeting both urban and rural areas.
Community leaders have voiced concern about the impact of substance abuse on families and youth, urging stronger collaboration between enforcement agencies and local organisations to address the problem.
The police have also encouraged members of the public to assist in the fight against drugs by providing information.
