Police Arrested Local Man in Bau for Suspected Online Gambling

BAU – Police in Bau have arrested a local man on suspicion of involvement in online gambling activities following an inspection carried out on 25 April 2026.

At around 4.20 pm, officers from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Bau District Police Headquarters conducted a check at a shop premises in Bau.

During the inspection, the man was found to be allegedly engaged in online gambling, commonly referred to as JOL. He was taken into custody at the scene.

Authorities confirmed that several items believed to be linked to the gambling activity were seized to assist with the ongoing investigation.

Police have since opened an investigation paper under Section 4B(a) of the Open Gambling Houses Act 1953, which provides for offences related to the operation or facilitation of gambling activities.

The Bau District Police Chief, PISUPT Mohd Haide bin A. Rahman, emphasised that the Royal Malaysian Police will continue to intensify enforcement against illegal gambling.

He warned that strict action will be taken against anyone found to be involved in such activities, whether directly or indirectly.

Illegal gambling remains a concern across Sarawak, with police frequently conducting raids and inspections to curb its spread.

Police have urged the public to avoid participating in gambling in any form, whether online or offline. They also encouraged residents to report suspicious activities to the Bau District Police Headquarters at 082-763311 or to the nearest police station.
