ASAJAYA – Police have taken firm action following a viral complaint shared on the Sarawak Road Update Facebook page regarding a traffic offence committed on Jalan Kota Samarahan-Asajaya on 17 April 2026.
At approximately 2.47pm, members of the public reported a Perodua Bezza bearing registration number QCR954 after footage circulated online showing the vehicle overtaking a lorry on a double line stretch of road. The manoeuvre posed a danger to oncoming traffic and sparked widespread concern among road users.
Responding to the complaint, the Kota Samarahan District Traffic Enforcement Division (BSPTD K/Shan) launched an investigation. Officers successfully traced the driver of the vehicle on 20 April 2026.
A summons was subsequently issued under POL257 through the MCOPS system. The driver was penalised for cutting across double lines, a violation that carries serious implications for road safety.
The summons, numbered L0677G000307, was formally recorded against the driver of the Perodua Bezza. Police confirmed that the enforcement action was taken to uphold traffic laws and to send a clear message that reckless driving will not be tolerated.
Authorities emphasised that overtaking on double lines is a dangerous offence, as it obstructs visibility and increases the risk of head-on collisions.
Such behaviour undermines the safety of all road users, particularly on busy routes like Jalan Kota Samarahan–Asajaya, which is frequently used by commuters and commercial vehicles.
The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) reiterated its commitment to addressing traffic offences that endanger lives.
Officials noted that viral reports on social media often assist enforcement teams in identifying offenders more quickly but stressed that public cooperation must be paired with responsible driving habits.
Police have urged motorists to remain vigilant and to respect traffic regulations at all times. They highlighted that enforcement measures are not only punitive but also preventive, aiming to reduce accidents and safeguard communities.
“Consistent enforcement is necessary to ensure compliance and protect lives,” a police spokesperson stated, adding that similar operations will continue across Sarawak to address violations that compromise public safety.
The incident serves as a reminder that social media can play a role in highlighting unsafe behaviour, but the responsibility ultimately lies with drivers to adhere to the rules of the road.
Authorities concluded by advising the public to drive responsibly and to prioritise safety for themselves and others.
