MUKAH – Police in Mukah have arrested two individuals, a foreign man aged 44 and a local woman aged 37, during a narcotics operation along Jalan Lama Mukah-Balingian on 27 April 2026.
The raid was carried out by the Narcotics Crimes Investigation Division of Mukah IPD following intelligence reports.
The suspects, both plantation workers, were found seated on a motorcycle at the edge of a forest area when officers approached. During the operation, the male suspect was seen discarding an item into nearby bushes.
A search revealed a transparent plastic packet containing crystalline substances believed to be methamphetamine, commonly known as syabu. The seized drugs weighed approximately 0.63 grams.
Both suspects were taken into custody along with the recovered drugs and motorcycle. Subsequent urine tests confirmed that they tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine. Preliminary investigations indicated that the drugs belonged to them.
The case is being investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which covers possession of controlled substances.
In addition, an investigation paper has been opened under the Immigration Act 1959/63 against the foreign suspect, who was found without valid travel documents.
Police confirmed that the suspects have been remanded for three days until 1 May 2026 to facilitate further investigation.
Authorities stressed that the arrests highlight ongoing efforts to combat drug abuse and trafficking in Mukah and surrounding areas.
Mukah District Police Chief DSP Muhamad Rizal bin Alias reiterated the force’s commitment to intensifying operations against narcotics-related activities.
He urged the public to assist by providing information on drug abuse or trafficking through the Mukah IPD hotline at 084-871222 or by contacting the nearest police station.
Drug abuse remains a pressing issue in Sarawak, with law enforcement agencies continuing to strengthen monitoring and enforcement.
The Mukah arrests underline the importance of community cooperation in tackling the problem and ensuring public safety.
