KUCHING – A 27-year-old local motorcyclist was killed in a tragic accident involving a car along Jalan Camar, Kuching, late Monday afternoon. The incident, which occurred at around 5.20pm on 25 November 2025, has once again raised concerns about road safety along busy routes connecting Petra Jaya and surrounding residential areas.
According to preliminary findings released by the Kuching District Police Headquarters, the accident happened when the victim, riding from the direction of Petra Jaya towards Jalan Kong Ping, attempted to make a right turn at a corner. At that moment, another motorcycle travelling straight struck him. The impact threw the rider onto the road.
Sarawak General Hospital paramedics who arrived at the scene confirmed that the victim had died due to severe injuries. His identity has not been released pending notification of family members.
Meanwhile, the 69-year-old local man driving the car involved in the collision was unharmed. Police confirmed that he suffered no injuries during the crash.
The case is currently being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which deals with causing death by reckless or dangerous driving. If convicted, offenders face imprisonment between five and ten years and a fine ranging from RM20,000 to RM50,000. Authorities stress that this law exists to deter dangerous driving behaviour and protect all road users, especially vulnerable motorcyclists.
Kuching District Police Chief, ACP Alexson Naga Anak Chabu, urged any witnesses or individuals with information to come forward and assist the investigation. Those with relevant details are encouraged to contact Traffic Investigator Insp. Muhammad Amirul Azami Bin Ahmad Rasol at 016-8593994 / 082-259900, or report to the nearest police station.
The police continue to remind the public to drive responsibly, follow traffic rules, and remain alert on the road—especially at corners and junctions where accidents are more likely to happen. This tragic loss of life serves as a harsh reminder that one moment of carelessness can lead to irreversible consequences.
