KUCHING – A young man was killed while three others were injured in a tragic early morning road accident along Jalan Pelabuhan here today.

Kuching district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu confirmed that the accident occurred at around 3.20am, involving a Perodua Myvi which was believed to have lost control before crashing.

The front passenger, a local man in his 20s, suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) at 4.21am.

The driver, a woman in her 30s, and two other male passengers sustained injuries and were rushed to SGH for medical treatment.

Police have opened an investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous driving causing death. If convicted, the accused may face up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to RM50,000.

He also reminded all road users to always drive carefully, follow speed limits, and obey all traffic rules to prevent such unfortunate incidents.
