Man Dies in Three-Car Crash During Heavy Rain in Jempol

JEMPOL — A man was killed while two others sustained injuries following a three-car collision during heavy rain at Kilometer 7, Jalan Bahau–Kemayan, here on Wednesday afternoon.

Jempol District Police Chief, Superintendent Norhisham Mustapar, said the incident occurred at about 2.20pm involving a Perodua Kelisa, a Toyota Vios, and a Honda HR-V.

According to him, initial investigations revealed that the crash began when a Toyota Vios driven by a 39-year-old man from Bahau towards Kemayan lost control during the downpour and swerved into the opposite lane. The vehicle then collided head-on with a Perodua Kelisa driven by a 53-year-old local man.

“At the same time, a Honda HR-V driven by a 41-year-old woman, which was travelling in the same direction as the Perodua Kelisa, failed to avoid the collision and crashed into the rear of the Kelisa,” he said in a statement.

Superintendent Norhisham added that the Perodua Kelisa driver suffered severe head injuries and was confirmed dead at the scene by medical personnel.

“The Toyota Vios driver sustained a broken right leg, while the Honda HR-V driver suffered minor eye injuries. Both were sent to hospital for treatment,” he said.

He further confirmed that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous driving causing death.

Police are urging members of the public who witnessed the incident to assist in the investigation. Witnesses may contact Inspector Mohd Amirul Syafiq Mohd Yusof from the Jempol IPD Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division at 016-2348669.

The police also reminded road users to exercise extra caution while driving in rainy conditions to avoid accidents that could cost lives.
