SIBU – The Malaysian Immigration Department in Sibu Division has detained 81 illegal immigrants during a series of enforcement raids under Ops Sapu, conducted across Sibu and Selangau between 9 and 10 May 2026.
The operation, which involved 19 enforcement personnel, including officers from the Special Action Force (PTK), was carried out following public complaints and intelligence gathering.
Raids targeted several premises suspected of being used as settlements and transit points for foreigners without valid documentation.
Inspections were conducted at nine different locations within the division. Out of 114 individuals checked, 81 were found to be in violation of immigration laws.
The detainees comprised 50 men, 18 women, five boys, and eight girls. A total of 80 Indonesians and one Filipino were taken into custody after failing to produce valid travel documents and permits.
Authorities confirmed that the offences fall under Section 6(1)(c), Section 15(1)(c), and Section 55(E) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
In addition to the detainees, action was also taken against a local employer suspected of harbouring or employing foreigners without valid documents.
All those detained were transported to the Sibu Immigration Enforcement Division Office for further investigation and processing.
The Immigration Department emphasised that enforcement operations will continue to be intensified across Sarawak to combat violations of immigration laws.
Officials reiterated that only foreigners who comply with regulations and hold valid permits will be allowed to reside and work in the state.
The department also encouraged members of the public to continue providing information that could assist in identifying illegal activities.
Ops Sapu reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding national security, protecting local employment opportunities, and ensuring that immigration laws are upheld.
The operation also highlights the importance of community vigilance in supporting enforcement agencies.
