BINTULU: The Department of Public Works (JKR) Sarawak is currently tasked with implementing 466 infrastructure development projects across the state, amounting to RM42.68 billion under the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13).

Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, revealed that of these, 200 projects have been successfully completed, 178 are slated for tender this year, while 128 are currently under construction. However, he acknowledged that 15 projects are facing delays, and eight are in the late stage of their critical schedule.

Speaking at the JKR Sarawak 2025 Appreciation Ceremony held at ParkCity Everly Hotel in Bintulu on Monday, Douglas Uggah emphasised the importance of contractor performance monitoring. He proposed reducing the tolerance window for project delays to enable quicker intervention.

“Previously, corrective action was only initiated after 100 days of delay for a three-year project and 60 days for a two-year project. We are now proposing to lower this limit to just 30 days to ensure timely and effective action,” he said.

The ceremony also celebrated the contributions of 42 retirees and recognised 142 recipients of the 2025 Outstanding Service Award (APC). The Deputy Premier expressed heartfelt gratitude to the retirees for their unwavering dedication and congratulated the APC awardees, describing them as exemplary figures within the department.

“Excellence does not come easily. It requires commitment, integrity, and continuous perseverance. I hope this culture of excellence becomes a norm within JKR Sarawak,” he concluded.
