BARCELONA – The Jabatan Kerja Raya (JKR) Sarawak has made its mark on the international stage by participating in the Digital Frontiers in Buildings and Infrastructure International Conference 2026 (DFBI 2026), held at the University of Barcelona from 30 March to 1 April 2026.
The conference brought together global researchers, academics, and industry professionals to explore the latest digital innovations shaping the built environment.
JKR Sarawak’s delegation included Ir. Ts. Br. PMr. Christopher Anak George (Senior Principal Assistant Director, Training and Competency Branch), Ir. Ts. Nor Aini binti Rosli (Senior Executive Engineer, Road Branch), and Ir. Ts. Jessie Chin Lin Wei (BIM Unit Head, Special Project Branch).
Representing the department, Ir. Ts. Jessie Chin Lin Wei presented a research paper titled “Implementing BIM in Sarawak Government Project: Lessons Learned from State Archive Building.”
The study examined the practical application of Building Information Modelling (BIM) in a public sector project, using the State Archive Building as a case study.
The paper highlighted several key findings, including coordination challenges among stakeholders, varying levels of BIM readiness, and the importance of establishing clear workflows and standards.
These insights are expected to guide future projects, strengthening collaboration and enhancing technical competencies across Sarawak’s infrastructure initiatives.
Beyond the presentation, the delegation gained exposure to cutting-edge developments in digital construction, such as smart asset management, automation, and sustainable infrastructure solutions.
The conference served as a valuable platform for knowledge exchange and international collaboration, reinforcing Sarawak’s commitment to adopting modern practices in construction and project delivery.
Officials noted that JKR Sarawak’s participation demonstrates the state’s proactive approach to integrating digital technologies into infrastructure development.
By sharing lessons learned and engaging with global experts, the department aims to improve efficiency, sustainability, and innovation in future projects.
