Joint Statement by Petronas and Petros on Gas Distribution Resolution Urged by Senator

Joint Statement by Petronas and Petros on Gas Distribution Resolution Urged by Senator

Kuching, Dec 28 Senator Abun Sui Anyit has called for a joint statement from Petronas and Petroleum Sarawak Bhd (Petros) regarding the resolution of the ongoing gas distribution issue in Sarawak. The senator emphasized that such a statement would be more effective in addressing the situation and preventing further political controversy.

Abun Sui stressed that the announcement of the gas distribution issue should not be left solely to politicians, as their statements often spark continued debates. Instead, he believes that a unified response from both Petronas and Petros would bring clarity and allow the issue to be seen as a business matter, not a political one. This approach, he argued, would help everyone involved better understand the details of the settlement.

“The involvement of both Petronas and Petros in making the announcement will bring credibility and prevent any confusion. This will allow the public to accept the resolution with trust and certainty,” said Abun in his statement. He further added that the public would be more likely to embrace the settlement if it came directly from the two companies, as they are the key players in the gas distribution industry in Sarawak.

Despite media reports suggesting that the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is expected to announce the resolution, Abun clarified that the Prime Minister’s remarks so far have only referred to the discussions between Petronas and Petros, not a formal confirmation of the resolution.

The Sarawak Premier’s Chief Political Secretary, Dato Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, echoed Abun’s sentiments, stating that the Sarawak government respects the Prime Minister’s role in making the final announcement. He reassured the public that the Sarawak government had been vocal in asserting Sarawak’s rights in the matter and was not keeping any details hidden.

Meanwhile, DAP Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen has expressed concerns about the delay in the formal announcement, urging Abang Johari to provide more transparency regarding the gas distribution issue. He pointed out that it had been over two weeks since the resolution was first mentioned, but no official statement had been made.

As discussions continue, Sarawakians are awaiting further clarification from both Petronas and Petros, hoping for a resolution that benefits the state and addresses long-standing issues regarding gas distribution.
