JPJ Betong Strengthens Road Safety Enforcement During Festive Ops

BETONG – The Road Transport Department (JPJ) Betong Branch has stepped up enforcement with the launch of Ops Chinese New Year 2026, focusing on patrols and monitoring around Betong town.

During the 16 February operation, officers inspected 121 vehicles across various categories. They detected multiple offences, including motorists driving without valid licences, expired Motor Vehicle Licences (LKM), and registration numbers that failed to meet official standards. Technical faults involving vehicle conditions were also identified.

JPJ said the initiative forms part of a wider effort to keep roads safe during the festive season, when traffic volume usually increases. By tightening checks on licences, insurance, and vehicle compliance, the department aims to lower risks linked to unsafe driving.

A spokesperson for JPJ Betong said enforcement will continue throughout the year. Monitoring efforts will be strengthened to keep safety levels high. Motorists are reminded to maintain their vehicles and ensure all required documents are up to date before travelling.

The operation mirrors similar efforts carried out across Sarawak, where JPJ focuses on vehicle roadworthiness, driver competency, and compliance with traffic laws during peak travel periods.

Residents in Betong welcomed the move, saying stricter inspections help discourage reckless behaviour on the road. Community leaders also urged drivers to take responsibility for their conduct, noting that enforcement works best with public cooperation.

JPJ Betong stressed that operations will continue beyond festive seasons. Periodic checks will remain in place to maintain consistent standards and protect all road users.

As families travel to celebrate, the department’s message stands firm: safe journeys begin with responsible driving and proper vehicle care.
