KUCHING – The Road Transport Department (JPJ) Kuching intensified its enforcement patrols in accident-prone areas during Ops Hari Raya Aidiladha (HRAA) and Gawai Dayak 2026, resulting in the confiscation of a luxury BMW 420i Coupé.
The patrol, conducted on Saturday evening around Jalan Tun Jugah, led to the detention of the vehicle for inspection.
Officers discovered that the car was being driven with an expired Motor Vehicle Licence (LKM) and insurance coverage, both of which are mandatory for vehicles operating on Malaysian roads.
Following the discovery, JPJ officers took immediate seizure action in accordance with legal provisions.
The department emphasised that such measures are necessary to ensure compliance with road safety regulations and to protect other motorists from risks posed by vehicles operating without valid documentation.
Ops HRAA and Gawai Dayak 2026 are being carried out across Sarawak to strengthen road safety during the festive season.
The operations combine enforcement against traffic offences with proactive monitoring in high-risk areas, aiming to reduce accidents and improve compliance among drivers.
JPJ Sarawak reiterated its commitment to maintaining public safety through both enforcement and awareness campaigns.
The department reminded motorists to ensure that their LKM, insurance policies, and related documents are valid before taking to the road. The confiscation of the BMW 420i Coupe highlights JPJ’s firm stance on road safety and compliance.
Authorities stressed that vehicles without valid licences and insurance not only endanger their occupants but also pose risks to other road users. Public cooperation remains crucial in supporting JPJ’s enforcement efforts.
Motorists are urged to carry out regular checks on their vehicles and documentation, particularly during festive seasons when traffic volumes are higher and accident risks increase.
