KUCHING – The Sarawak Road Transport Department (JPJ) has confiscated 11 vehicles during a targeted enforcement operation focusing on motorcycles and illegal lighting modifications.
The stationary checkpoint operation was set up along Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman Yakub to crack down on road safety violations.
Fifi Suhesty binti Asmuni, the Head of the Enforcement Division for JPJ Sarawak, personally oversaw the field operation.
Officers on the ground intercepted and inspected a total of 648 vehicles of various categories throughout the exercise.
During the checks, authorities identified numerous traffic infractions. Frequent offences included motorists operating vehicles without a valid driving licence, driving with expired licences, and utilising non-compliant High-Intensity Discharge (HID) or LED headlamps.
Various other technical and structural violations were also logged by the enforcement team. The operation resulted in the immediate impoundment of 11 vehicles.
The seized transport comprised five motorcycles, three standard motorcars, one four-wheel-drive vehicle, and a luxury jeep. Additionally, officers impounded a car operated by a foreign national.
According to JPJ Sarawak, the seizures were triggered by severe infractions. These included expired motor vehicle licences, a complete lack of mandatory insurance coverage, foreign nationals driving without legal documentation, and extreme, unauthorised vehicle modifications.
Legal actions have since been initiated against the non-compliant motorists under existing transport laws. The department confirmed that these statutory penalties aim to curb dangerous road habits and hold reckless drivers accountable.
JPJ Sarawak stated that it intends to scale up and maintain these rigorous enforcement drives moving forward.
The department reiterated its commitment to decreasing traffic violations and upgrading general safety standards for all commuters across the state’s road network.
