JPJ Mukah Tightens Road Safety Checks During Festive Operations

The operation on 16 February involved inspections of 88 vehicles across various categories. Officers detected several offences, including motorists driving without valid licences and vehicles displaying registration numbers that failed to meet official specifications. Technical violations involving vehicle conditions were also recorded.

JPJ said the operation aims to strengthen road safety during the festive season, when traffic volume typically rises. By tightening checks on licences, insurance, and vehicle standards, the department seeks to curb unsafe driving and reduce accident risks.

A spokesperson for JPJ Mukah said enforcement efforts will continue throughout the year. Monitoring will be intensified to keep safety levels high. Motorists are urged to maintain their vehicles and ensure all required documents remain valid before travelling.

The campaign forms part of wider operations across Sarawak, where similar initiatives focus on vehicle roadworthiness, driver competency, and compliance with traffic laws during peak travel periods.

Residents in Mukah said the operation sends a clear signal about the importance of following regulations. Community leaders also called on drivers to take responsibility for their conduct on the road, stressing that enforcement works best with public cooperation.

JPJ Mukah confirmed that inspections will continue beyond the festive season. Periodic operations will be carried out to maintain consistent standards and protect all road users.

As families travel to celebrate, the department’s message is straightforward: safe journeys begin with responsible driving and proper vehicle maintenance.
