SERIAN – The Sarawak Road Transport Department (JPJ), through its Serian Branch Operations Unit, carried out Ops Patuh on 21 April 2026 to reinforce compliance with road safety regulations.
The enforcement exercise involved patrols and monitoring along Jalan Kuching-Serian and Jalan Outer Ring Road, Samarahan, with static checks conducted on Jalan Datuk Mohd Musa in Samarahan.
A total of 71 vehicles of various categories were inspected during the operation. Officers detected several offences, including drivers failing to wear seat belts, expired motor vehicle licences (LKM), and technical faults relating to vehicle safety standards.
JPJ confirmed that enforcement action was taken against all detected violations in accordance with the law.
The department emphasised that such measures are necessary to ensure discipline among road users and to safeguard public safety.
Officials explained that Ops Patuh is part of JPJ’s broader strategy to strengthen compliance with road regulations.
By targeting both technical and behavioural offences, the operation aims to reduce risks on busy routes connecting Serian and Samarahan.
The Serian JPJ Branch reiterated its commitment to intensifying enforcement activities periodically. Authorities stressed that adherence to road laws is essential not only for drivers but also for the safety of passengers and other road users.
Road safety advocates have long highlighted that issues such as expired licences and failure to wear seat belts contribute significantly to accidents and fatalities.
JPJ’s continued enforcement is designed to address these concerns while reinforcing accountability among motorists.
