KUCHING – The New Muslim Development Division held a coordination meeting with the National Registration Department (JPN) on 7 October 2026 to discuss documentation requirements involving applications to amend religious particulars on identity cards.

The meeting focused on administrative matters related to documents required by individuals who have converted to Islam and subsequently apply to update the religious details recorded on their identity cards.

Discussions also covered issues that may arise during the application process, with representatives from the relevant departments exchanging views on possible solutions within their respective areas of responsibility.

The coordination session was intended to improve understanding of the documentation and procedures involved, particularly where applications require verification or supporting records relating to an individual’s conversion.

Representatives from the State Attorney-General’s Chambers also attended the meeting to provide legal perspectives on matters discussed.

Their involvement allowed legal considerations to be taken into account alongside the administrative requirements handled by the departments involved.

The meeting provided a platform for the agencies to clarify issues affecting applications and consider ways to improve coordination in handling cases involving amendments to identity card particulars.

Such coordination is important where applications involve records maintained by different government agencies, as clear documentation and consistent procedures can help facilitate the processing of applications.

The discussions also highlighted the need for relevant agencies to work together when addressing administrative or legal matters connected with changes to personal records.

For individuals seeking to amend religious particulars on their identity cards, the required documentation forms an important part of the application process. Ensuring that the requirements are clearly understood by the agencies involved can help reduce administrative difficulties and support more effective case handling.

The participation of the State Attorney-General’s Chambers further provided an avenue for legal aspects to be considered as the departments review issues arising from the application process.

The coordination meeting reflects continued inter-agency engagement on matters involving identity documentation and religious records, with the discussions aimed at improving the administration of applications and addressing issues that may affect applicants.

Further coordination between the relevant authorities will help ensure that administrative procedures and legal considerations remain aligned when handling applications involving amendments to religious particulars on identity cards. – Sarawak Daily
