Kabong Assemblyman Highlights Quran’s Role for Younger Generation

KABONG – A member of the State Legislative Assembly has emphasised the critical importance of instilling an appreciation for the Quran in young people. Dato Mohd Chee Kadir, the Assemblyman for Kabong, stated that this effort is fundamental to cultivating a society that is both knowledgeable and possesses strong moral character.

He made these comments during his address at the 2025 Khatam Al-Quran ceremony, which was hosted at Sekolah Kebangsaan Haji Junid Gerigat last Sunday.

The event celebrated the successful completion of Quranic recitation by a cohort of students. The ceremony underscored the community’s commitment to reinforcing religious education alongside conventional academic pursuits.

Dato Mohd Chee highlighted the indispensable role that parents and religious educators play in this process.

He argued that the home must serve as the primary institution where a child’s initial understanding of Islamic values is formed.

Guidance from a young age, he suggested, is key to fostering a genuine and lasting connection with the religious text.

“The knowledge found within the Quran should not merely be read,” he advised the audience. “It must be actively practiced in daily life. The home should be the first madrasah in educating children with Islamic values.”

This practical application, he contended, is what transforms theoretical knowledge into a cornerstone for personal development and community cohesion.

The Assemblyman extended his congratulations to the thirty-four pupils from the school who had accomplished the significant milestone of khatam, or completing their recitation.

He specifically commended their demonstrated enthusiasm, discipline, and resolve throughout their studies.

In recognition of the school’s efforts in organising the event, which he described as a manifestation of devotion to the holy book, Dato Mohd Chee also announced a series of development initiatives for SK Haji Junid Gerigat. These pledges are intended to enhance the school’s infrastructure and support its educational mission.

The committed projects include enlarging an open-air hall or awning, installing additional fans for student comfort, and constructing a new perimeter fence around the school field.

Furthermore, an allocation of RM5,000 was confirmed to directly support the costs associated with the 2025 Khatam Al-Quran ceremony.

Educational experts often note that integrating religious and moral instruction with standard curricula can contribute positively to a child’s holistic development. The initiatives in Kabong reflect a broader focus within the region on nurturing well-rounded individuals.

In his concluding remarks, Dato Mohd Chee expressed his hope that the students would remain steadfast in their engagement with the Quran’s teachings.

He articulated a vision for them to become a generation that is balanced in both spiritual and intellectual pursuits, thereby ensuring their future competitiveness and moral grounding.
