Quick-Thinking Kampung Alit Kabong Residents Stop Fire from Spreading

KABONG – The quick action of Kampung Alit residents this morning helped control a house fire on Jalan Kabong before it could cause more damage.

According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Centre (PGO), the Saratok Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) received an emergency call at 11.09am and arrived at the scene at about 11.23am. The location was approximately 36 kilometres from the station.

Before the fire brigade arrived, members of the Kabong Volunteer Fire Department (PBS) reached the scene and found residents already working together to control the flames using tap water. Their swift efforts successfully prevented the fire from spreading to other parts of the property.

The firefighting team then set up a water stream with a single nozzle and conducted further work to ensure the fire was fully extinguished. Water was sourced from a nearby ditch to complete the operation.

The incident affected household items, a pile of used tyres, and about five percent of the house’s structure. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
