Wooden House Razed in Kampung Lichok Fire, No Injuries Reported

SARIKEI – A two-storey wooden house in Kampung Lichok, along Jalan Roban-Sarikei, was completely destroyed in a fire this evening.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Operations Centre (PGO) said they received an emergency call at about 5.33pm. Following the alert, a team of firefighters from the Sarikei Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) was immediately dispatched to the scene.

“Upon arrival, it was found that the house had already been 100 percent engulfed in flames,” said a PGO spokesman in a statement.

The house, estimated to cover an area of 20×20 square feet, was reduced to ashes by the time firemen arrived. Despite the destruction, no casualties or injuries were reported in the incident.

The firefighting operation was led by Senior Fire Officer (PBK) I Kilok Lampas. His team used a single auxiliary hose line, supplied with water from the pump tank, to control and fully extinguish the fire.

“Firefighters worked tirelessly, ensuring the blaze was completely put out. The operation was declared under control and officially ended at around 7.30pm,” the statement added.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire and the estimated losses. Residents in the area were urged to remain cautious and ensure their homes are equipped with fire safety measures to prevent similar incidents.

The swift response of the Sarikei Fire and Rescue Department once again highlighted the importance of rapid emergency response in protecting lives and minimising damage, even though the house could not be saved.
