LIMBANG – Kampung Limpaku Pinang has been identified as a promising site for water sports and tourism development in northern Sarawak, thanks to its strategic location at the estuary of Sungai Limbang overlooking Brunei Bay.
Deputy Minister of Transport, Datuk Hasbi Habibollah, said the village’s potential was highlighted by the strong turnout at the recent Speed Boat Festival, which attracted participants from Brunei Darussalam, Labuan and Lawas.
He noted that the event demonstrated the viability of Kampung Limpaku Pinang as a community-driven tourism product.
Plans are now being considered to establish cross-border cooperation involving Brunei Darussalam, Sabah and Labuan, with the aim of launching the Brunei Bay Festival as a large-scale tourism event in northern Sarawak.
Datuk Hasbi emphasised that such initiatives could elevate the region’s profile while fostering closer ties with neighbouring areas.
“This effort initiated by the local community should be strengthened and expanded through the organisation of various water sports activities that have a greater impact,” he said during the festival’s officiation ceremony on Sunday.
He added that the Sarawak Government remains committed to supporting community-based tourism projects that can generate sustainable economic growth.
By leveraging natural landscapes and cultural assets, the government hopes to create opportunities that benefit both residents and visitors.
At the same event, Datuk Hasbi announced an allocation of RM15,000 to support the organisation of the programme.
The funding is intended to encourage further development of water sports activities and enhance the festival’s appeal.
Kampung Limpaku Pinang’s location at the confluence of Sungai Limbang and Brunei Bay provides a unique setting for water-based recreation.
With its scenic views and accessibility, the area is well-positioned to attract domestic and international tourists seeking adventure and cultural experiences.
Local leaders and community groups have expressed optimism that continued investment and collaboration will help transform the village into a recognised hub for water sports.
The proposed Brunei Bay Festival, if realised, could serve as a flagship event showcasing the region’s natural beauty, cultural diversity and cross-border cooperation.
The initiative reflects Sarawak’s broader strategy of promoting tourism as a driver of economic development, particularly in rural and northern districts.
By combining government support with community participation, Kampung Limpaku Pinang is poised to play a significant role in shaping the future of tourism in Limbang.
