Community Spirit Shines at Kampung Sungai Apong Baru Pre‑Gawai Dinner

KUCHING – The community of Kampung Sungai Apong Baru gathered on 16 May for a Pre‑Gawai Dinner, an event that highlighted unity, cultural pride, and the spirit of cooperation among residents.

Representing Deputy Premier YB Datuk Amar Prof Dr Sim Kui Hian, MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng joined the celebration, commending the organisers and participants for their teamwork and dedication.

This year’s theme, Bejalai Segulai Nuju Pemansang (journeying together towards progress), underscored the importance of collective effort in building a stronger Sarawak.

The message resonated with attendees, reminding them that true progress lies not only in infrastructure but also in the values of harmony, mutual support, and gotong‑royong.

The dinner, hosted by the JKKK and organising committee, brought together villagers, leaders, and guests in a lively atmosphere.

Traditional performances, cultural exchanges, and communal dining reflected the essence of Gawai – a festival that celebrates gratitude, health, and togetherness.

Dato Wee Hong Seng, speaking on behalf of Dr Sim, emphasised the significance of community spirit in Sarawak’s nation‑building journey.

“Our greatest strength is not just in buildings, but in unity, gotong‑royong, and the shared spirit of harmony that makes Sarawak so special,” he said.

He further expressed appreciation to the organisers, noting that their teamwork demonstrated how collective effort leads to meaningful achievements.

The Mayor also highlighted the broader vision of Sarawak’s development, stressing that inclusivity across races, religions, and backgrounds is vital to achieving prosperity by 2030.

He reminded the community that their cooperation today lays the foundation for future generations, ensuring a strong and united Sarawak.

The evening concluded with well‑wishes for the upcoming Gawai celebration. The traditional greeting, Gayu Guru Gerai Nyamai, Lantang Senang Nguan Menua. OooHaaa! echoed through the hall, symbolising peace, happiness, and prosperity for all.
