Two Injured in Van Crash Near Awik Bridge, Saratok

SARATOK — Two people sustained minor injuries when a Toyota Hiace van they were travelling in skidded off the road shoulder near Awik Bridge yesterday evening.

According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department’s Operations Centre (PGO), an emergency call regarding the incident was received at 4.48pm. A team from the Saratok Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) was immediately deployed to the scene.

The accident involved a female driver and a male passenger. Both suffered injuries but were not trapped inside the vehicle. The female driver reportedly complained of pain in her leg, which she was unable to move, and had to be assisted out of the van by rescue personnel.

Firefighters provided initial treatment to both victims at the location before handing them over to an ambulance from the Ministry of Health (KKM) and the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit for further medical attention.

PGO Sarawak stated that seven firefighters were involved in the operation, supported by a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) and an EMRS vehicle. The operation concluded once the situation was fully under control.

Authorities confirmed that no serious injuries were reported in the crash, and both victims have since been sent to the hospital for follow-up treatment.

The Fire and Rescue Department reminded the public to remain cautious while driving, especially near bridge areas and sharp bends, where accidents commonly occur. Timely emergency response and swift action from the rescue team ensured that the victims received immediate assistance.

This incident highlights the importance of road safety awareness and the readiness of emergency teams to handle such cases effectively.
