KEMAS Tanjong Manis Honours Educators for Rural Community Progress

SARIKEI – The dedication of educators and community development officers under the Community Development Department (KEMAS) in Tanjong Manis was celebrated during the Majlis Apresiasi KEMAS P.206 Tanjong Manis Tahun 2025, held at the Oriental Evermore Hotel on Saturday.

The event, attended by around 100 participants, was officiated by Dato’ Ir. Yusuf Abd Wahab, Member of Parliament for Tanjong Manis and Chairman of the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) Malaysia.

In his keynote address, Yusuf praised the professionalism and commitment of KEMAS staff in delivering programmes that uplift rural communities.

He emphasised that early childhood education and community empowerment remain central priorities for the constituency.

He highlighted that 22 KEMAS kindergartens in Tanjong Manis have been earmarked for upgrading under the Parliamentary People-Friendly Projects Allocation for 2024 and 2025.

The initiative, valued at RM1.74 million, aims to enhance facilities and create safer, more conducive learning environments for children and educators alike.

The appreciation ceremony featured a variety of activities, including a video presentation, cultural performances by KEMAS zones, and the distribution of certificates and souvenirs. A lucky draw added a festive element to the occasion.

Yusuf noted that the annual event is not only a recognition of contributions but also a platform to strengthen teamwork, boost morale, and encourage a culture of integrity within KEMAS.

Among the attendees were Mohamad Jemal Karim, KEMAS Officer for Matu/Daro and Tanjong Manis District; Nuriza Merais, Senior Community Development Assistant (Community Development); Rahimah Ahmat, Senior Community Development Assistant (Skills Education); Arif Saufiah, Acting Assistant Community and Skills Officer; Khairunnisa Jebat, Early Childhood Education Officer; and Rahmah Tering, a retired KEMAS officer.

The presence of educators and assistant educators from across the constituency underscored the collective effort to advance rural development.

KEMAS, established in 1961, has long been recognised for its role in community education and empowerment across Malaysia.

The department’s initiatives include early childhood education, adult literacy, and skills training, all aimed at improving socio-economic conditions in rural areas.

In Sarawak, KEMAS kindergartens have played a vital role in bridging educational gaps, particularly in remote districts.

The upgrading of facilities in Tanjong Manis reflects broader national efforts to ensure equitable access to quality education.

The ceremony reaffirmed the importance of educators and community officers as agents of change, with their contributions forming the backbone of rural development strategies.
