BINTULU – Infrastructure upgrades in the Kemena Industrial Area are officially underway as road repair and resurfacing efforts have commenced to address long-standing concerns over poor road conditions and frequent flooding.
Tanjong Batu State Assemblyman (ADUN), Johnny Pang Leong Ming, announced during a site visit on Tuesday that the ongoing project involves the repaving of the 1.8-kilometre main road along with 500 metres of adjoining branch roads. Additionally, a new drainage system is being constructed to mitigate recurring flood issues that have burdened the area.
“Most of the roads here are riddled with potholes and uneven surfaces. On dry days, dust becomes a major issue, and during heavy rain, flooding severely disrupts operations,” he said. “This not only affects the comfort of road users but also poses safety hazards for residents and business owners.”
According to Pang, the road and drainage works are being implemented in response to complaints and requests from the local community and entrepreneurs operating in the industrial zone, many of whom have been affected by the deteriorating infrastructure for years.
“The drainage upgrade is especially crucial. It will enhance water flow and reduce the risk of flash floods, improving both safety and operational efficiency in this vital economic hub,” he added.
The project is scheduled for completion by the end of August 2025. Once completed, it is expected to significantly enhance the daily experience of road users and bolster business operations in the area.
Johnny Pang also urged motorists to slow down and exercise caution while driving through the construction zone to avoid accidents. He expressed confidence that the upgrades would bring long-term improvements to the community and elevate the overall image of the Kemena Industrial Area.
