KUCHING – The Sarawak State Youth and Sports Department (JBSN) convened the first Working Committee Meeting for the Grassroots Youth Inspirational Travel Programme (KIBAR) Series 1 Borneo Zone 2026 on 20 April.
The session, held at the department’s Level 3 meeting room, was chaired by the Director of JBSN Sarawak and began with a welcome address before continuing with a detailed briefing on the programme framework by Mr Mohammad Afiq Abdul Azizi, the KIBAR Programme Coordinating Officer.
The KIBAR initiative is designed to attract unaffiliated youth into structured organisations, offering them opportunities to participate in community activities and leadership development.
It also serves as a platform for dialogue between grassroots youth and government representatives, enabling the collection of aspirations and feedback from the younger generation.
A key focus of the programme is rural youth involvement, with organisers stressing the importance of close coordination to ensure effective outreach.
The meeting outlined the roles and responsibilities of each implementing agency, aiming to avoid duplication of tasks and streamline operations.
Committee members presented proposals and discussed logistical and technical aspects of the event. The open discussion provided space for participants to share ideas and coordinate efforts holistically, ensuring that the programme will run smoothly and achieve its objectives.
The Borneo Zone KIBAR Programme is scheduled to take place on 27 April 2026 at Semeba Village Hall, Kuching, from 8.00 am to 6.00 pm.
The large-scale event is expected to draw significant participation from rural youth groups, offering them exposure to structured activities and opportunities to engage directly with government agencies.
Officials highlighted that the programme is not only about recruitment into youth organisations but also about fostering integrity, accountability, and leadership among participants.
By creating a two-way communication channel, the initiative aims to strengthen trust between young people and the government while promoting active citizenship.
The KIBAR Programme has been recognised as a strategic effort to empower youth at the grassroots level.
Its emphasis on inclusivity and structured engagement reflects Sarawak’s broader vision of nurturing future leaders and ensuring that rural communities are not left behind in development efforts.
