KOTA SAMARAHAN – The Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS), in collaboration with the Sarawak Veterinary Services Department (Samarahan Division) and the Samarahan Division Health Office, organised an Anti-Rabies Vaccination and Dog Licensing Programme at the Uni Central Recreation Park on 7 March 2026.
The initiative aimed to raise awareness about Rabies prevention while encouraging responsible pet ownership to protect community safety.
Several key activities were carried out during the programme. Pet owners received free anti-rabies vaccinations for their dogs, complimentary dog licences for 2026, and free microchip installation for their pets. Health education sessions also took place, giving owners and residents practical information on rabies prevention and proper pet care.
Residents turned up in strong numbers, bringing their pets to receive vaccinations and licences. Many welcomed the microchip service, which helps authorities track and manage pets more effectively within the division.
The programme also featured a walkabout session by MPKS Municipal Chairman Abang Ismawi Abang Ali, who observed the activities and spoke with participants. His presence reflected the council’s focus on protecting public health and promoting responsible pet ownership.
Organisers stressed that rabies remains a serious concern in Sarawak. Vaccination campaigns play a major role in limiting its spread, while free services encourage more pet owners to take preventive steps.
MPKS expressed appreciation to all agencies involved, including the veterinary and health authorities, as well as residents who supported the programme. Their cooperation ensured the smooth running of the initiative.
The council also reaffirmed its plan to continue similar programmes in the future, with the goal of maintaining a safer and healthier environment for the people of Kota Samarahan.
